POZZUOLI: GASTRONOMY & ARCHAEOLOGY @ 14 Jun 2010

I Campi Flegrei come non li avete mai visti: la mostra dei ...

Campi Flegrei, near Pozzuoli (Campania) will be the spectacular setting for the 5 th edition of Malazè, the Crater of Taste, a novel Fair formula, where gastronomy and archaeology are combined. The Fair, which will take place between the 4 th to 14 th September 2010, will involve some 100 wine producers, restaurants, farm food producers, bakeries, patisseries and cultural associations, all from the volcanic area of the Campi Flegrei.

The Campi Flegrei area, on the slopes of Etna near the sea, is one of Campanias most unusual tourist attractions, due to the phenomenon of the burning fields, as the bubbling, gassy Flegrei crater is sometimes called. Pozzuoli was also a favourite ancient Roman watering hole before the historic eruption that buried Pompeii and is full of fascinating archaeological sites. It is lesser known as a food producing and gastronomic centre and the Malazè event is seen as a unique opportunity to launch this aspect.

The event is organized with the Slow Food movement, the Wine Route of the Campi Flegrei, the wine-growers consortium of the area and other leading associations and local government bodies.

Main attractions in the programme include: Vela, Vino e Paranza (Sailing, Wine & Fish), a regata between Baia and Misida, with each boat connected to a  wine producer, the Cena Galeotta, a dinner in the Womens Prison of Pozzuoli, with dishes prepared by the inmates, and various events in local vineyards.
