GAMBERO ROSSO: TOP CHEFS OF THE YEAR @ 29 Oct 2010

The 2011 edition of the Gambero Rosso,  Italys most prestigious guide to eating excellence, has confirmed the leading positions of three famous Italian chefs.

In equal position top of the list, with 94 points out of 100, are Heinz Beck of La Pergola, Hilton Hotel, Rome, Gennaro Esposito of La Torre del Saracino, Vico Equense, in the province of Naples, and Gianfranco Vissani of Vissani, Baschi, near Terni, Umbria.  Massimo Bottura of L'Osteria Francescana of Modena, tipped as a hot favourite by L'Espresso guide, came in third place.

A special prize for Best Emerging Chef went to Massimo Mantarro of the rincipe Cerami restaurant, Hotel San Domenico, Taormina.

The latest edition of the Guida dei Ristoranti d'Italia del Gambero Rosso 2011 gives the pleasing information that eating excellence is distributed more evenly over the entire Italian peninsula than before, and that gourmet restaurants are holding up well despite the financial crisis which has affected many small, middle-of-the-road establishments.
