VATICAN RAPHAEL FRESCOES RESTORED @ 10 Feb 2013

Visitors can once more admire the celebrated cycles of frescoes by Raphael in the Heliodorus Room of the Vatican Museum, curator Antonio Paolucci announced recently as the last scaffolding came down to reveal the depiction of the meeting of Pope Leo the Great with Attila, restored to its original glory.

The Room of Heliodorus was painted by Raphael between 1511 and 1514. It takes its name from one of the frescoes which shows the Biblical episode of Heliodorus being cast out of the Temple. The frescoes also feature portraits of Pope Julius II, who was the patron of Raphael and Michaelangelo and who also commissioned the Sistine Chapel ceiling and Last Judgement.
