NAPLES: A HUNDRED THOUSAND PIZZAS @ 06 Jun 2014

 

Lungomare Caracciolo, Naples' elegant sea front promenade, will be the venue for the Caputo Napoli Pizza Village during the first week of September 2014, when 45 historic Neapolitan pizzerias will set up shop to serve an estimated 450,000 visitors over six action-packed days.

The event is expected to be even more successful than last year's edition which chalked up 100,000 pizzas served by 150 pizza chefs and 450 assistants in a 30,000 sqm area, with seating for 4,400 customers contemporarily.

The event includes the World Championship of Pizza Chefs, where 500 pizzaiuoli from 40 different countries from all over the world will compete for the eight trophies that include: the Neapolitan Pizza STG (Guaranteed Traditional Speciality), Classic Pizza, Pizza by the meter, junior category (pizza chefs aged between 18-21) and the spectacular Acrobatic Pizza, where chefs show their skills at tossing and twirling the dough into shape.

The event will coincide with the opening of the Naples Pizza Museum at the Museo Mediterraneo, Arte, Musica e Tradizioni (MAMT) in Piazza Municipio, where all the tools of the trade, historic costumes and photographs linked to the history of pizza-making will be on permanent display.
