Culture vultures will be heading for the city of Vicenza (Veneto) this Christmas and after for an exciting series of exhibitions the city will be holding from the 24th December 2014 on until the 2nd June 2015. Christmas Eve will mark the opening of the special event: Tutankhamon Caravaggio Van Gogh  in the splendid venue of the Basilica  Palladiana, re-opened after restoration in October 2012.

Over a hundred masterpieces from museums and private collections from all over the world will be on display, with the common theme of night and what this meant to peoples and artists in different stages of civilization. The Egyptian section deals with night as related to death and eternity, displayed under the reproduction of a starry sky of the desert. The second section focuses on the night of Christian faith, the crucifixion and the saints depicted in semi darkness by artists such as Caravaggio, El Greco, Zubaran, Poussin, Bacon and others. The third section takes us into the '800 of Romanticism and landscape with sunset and twilight scenes by Turner, Friedrich, Corot, Monet, Millet, Van Gogh and so on.

Nine other exhibitions carrying on the night theme, will also be available, along with special interest guided tours to places like the National Institute of Astrophysics and the Observatory of Asiago, itineraries along the mountain passes of the First World War and visits to the UNESCO World Heritage of Vicenza's historic centre and the Villas of Palladium.
