Lazio's museums, monuments and archaeological areas have seen an encouraging increase in visitor figures, according to recent reports from Federculture, the umbrella association grouping all Italian cultural bodies.  Last year, (2014) visitor figures rose to 18.5 million  an increase of 5% compared with the previous year. Earnings increased by 6.3% to 58 million.

Other cultural activites, such as theatre, music and dance also did well. In 2014, over 3 million spectacles were held in Italy, 450,000 of which in the Lazio region alone. Rome alone accounted for 85% of audience presences and figures, proving that the demand for quality cultural events is constantly increasing.

Some 10,000 people work in the cultural field in Lazio. Regional governor Nicola Zingaretti, announcing the promotion of a new Regional Law: the Cultural System in Lazio, declared that one of the purposes of the decree was to narrow the existing gap between the cultural scene in the city of Rome alone and the rest of the region.
