I Parchi Più˝ Belli D'Italia (Italy's Most Beautiful Parks association) offer a programme of events for the festive season involving historic gardens all over the country. These are only a few examples:
Villa Boromeo Visconti Litta at Lainate (Milan) has one of the biggest exchibitions of handmade Christmas cribs in Italy during the second week of December, as well as a series of themed musical and choir concerts.
Il Bosco di San Francesco (St. Francis' Wood) at Assisi (Umbria) organizes with FAI (Italian Foundation for the Environment) Christmas in the Wood during the first three Sundays of December with book readings, aperitif concerts, cake making courses for children and specialised markets.
Il Giardino degli Agrumi at Pescia, Pistoia (Tuscany), opens its Enchanted Wood every Sunday of the month for its Christmas Fair of Crafts, Art and Food, enlivened by music, debates, cookery and art lessons.
And for a really special New Year's Eve celebration, you can choose a special night visit to the Castello di Gropparello, Piacenza, (Reggio Emilia) with Gala Dinner and champagne and panettone for the midnight toast.
Alternatively, again at Piacenza, the Castello di Rivalta offers New Year's Eve at the Castle with gospel choirs, banquets for families and a visit to the Castello delle Meraviglie (Castle of Wonders), raffles and fireworks.
