NAPLES MAISON CILENTO SURPRISING TIES @ 21 Dec 2015

La Maison Cilento di Napoli: sartoria e tradizione - Italian Ways

The historic Maison Cilento, founded in 1780, has recently moved from its traditional seat in Palazzo D'Aquino Caramanico in Via Medina to the panoramic Riviera di Chiaia, celebrated for its aristocratic villas dating from the 16th -19th centuries.

The Cilento family business, synonymous with high class tailoring and style, is an institution in Naples. The present owner, Ugo Cilento, belongs to the eight generation.

The boutique-atelier sells made-to-measure menswear as well as silk scarves, bags, perfumes and various accessories for women clients. It is most famous, however, for its handmade silk ties. A special range of forty ties, created with typical Neapolitan irony, reflect various professions – the chef, the journalist, the politician, the lawyer, the chemist and so on, with discreet little symbols embroidered on the reverse. There is also a playboy tie with little hearts and a Carnival tie with figurines from the Neapolitan Commedia dell'Arte that gave rise to popular theatre in Europe in the '600.

All these ties have proved extremely popular, but maybe theThief Tie , with tiny banknotes and a little burglar with his sack of swag on his back - was going a bit too far. We've only sold two of these so far, Ugo Cilento confessed.
