The mythical Italian Vespa (Wasp), immortalized in the 1960s film Roman Holiday, starring Gregory Peck as the scooter-riding roving reporter with Princess Audrey Hepburn perched behind him, is to have a special exhibition at its birthplace, the Piaggio Museum at Pontedera (Tuscany).

Launched in 1946, its revolutionary technical features and aerodynamic design made it an instant hit and one of the icons of Made in Italy, with Hollywood stars like Henry Fonda, John Wayne, Matt Damon, Antonio Banderas and Nicole Kidman immortalized on the saddle.

In the 70 years since it was first launched on the international market, the Vespa has been produced in 150 different versions and has notched up total sales of 18 million.

The exhibition In Viaggio con Vespa. Un'avventura lunga 70 anni (Travelling with Vespa: A 70 year-long adventure) opens on the 22nd April 2016, followed by a two-day rally of thousands of Vespa fans from all over the world and a concert on the 24th April with Italian rock star Enrico Ruggeri.
