For the next eight months, visitors to Pompeii can admire the 30 gigantic bronzes by Igor Mitoraj set among the ruins of Italy's most famous dead city.

The colossal sculptures created by the French-Polish artist, who died in Paris in 2014, portray mythical heroes such as Icarus, Theseus, Eros, Daedalus, Vulcan, the Centurion, the Centaur and so on. One of his most famous works, Lights of Nara is also on display.

A similar exhibition by Mitoraj was held among the ruins of the Temples of Agrigento in 2011, with a collection of his idealized figures and busts.

The artist lived much of his life at Pietrsanta, near the famous marble quarries of Carrara.

The exhibition runs till the end of January 2017.
