Grand night for ballroom dancers in the Romagna Riviera between the 21st - 23rd July 2016. The event involves all the seaside resorts on the Emilia Romagna coast, as well as the nearby inland towns.
Ballo liscio (smooth dancing, as so-called ballroom dancing is called in Italy) is a popular tradition in the Romagna region, where dances are attended by all age groups (though silver-haired enthusiasts prevail), who launch themselves enthusiastically into traditional waltzes, polkas and mazurkas, as well as group formation dancing (handy if you don't have a partner).
The Notte del Liscio Festival (Dance Night Festival) is dedicated to the memory of musician and band maestro Secondo Casadei, who promoted Romagna music and dance traditions worldwide during a fifty-year career. His nephew Mirko Casadei now conducts the orchestra and will be performing at the festival, along with the well-known tradtional dance band, Orchestra di Moreno il Biondo.
A modern twist is promised by the performance of the ExtraLiscio Band, which introduces Punk di Balera (Dance Hall Punk) music into the traditional swinging Romagna foot-tapping melodies.
