The Italian post office has issued a commemorative stamp, commissioned by the Ministry of Economic Development, in honour of Carpenč-Malvolti, the founder of Prosecco, which celebrates its 150th anniversary this year.

The winery was founded by scientist and enologist Antonio Carpenč in 1868, who was a forerunner of the science of applying the principles of biology and enology to wine production.

The company has been in the same family for five generations and produces 25 types of sparkling wine, as well as grappa and brandy, exporting 60% of its production in over 60 countries.

The first bottle with the name "Prosecco", produced from the Glera variety of grape, was put on the market in 1924 and its popularity continually increases.

The new stamp, which bears the image of the historic 19th century brand label of the Conegliano (Treviso) company, is part of a series dedicated to "Excellence in the productive and economic system".
