On the initiative of Pope Francis,  the new Sky cinema production of the film-documentary "Michelangelo Infinito" was shown in Rome's Rebibbia prison, the first of four appointments in the "Free in Art" series, aimed at brightening the lives of those serving prison sentences.

The film, which was released for brief showings in September and October 2018, will be replicated on the 19-20 November before it is launched on worldwide circuits through the international distributer True Colours . The project has been developed by the creators of the preceding and highly successful productions of "Caravaggio" and "Raffaello"

The life and works of Michelangelo Buonarotti are portrayed with scrupulous attention to detail and authenticity, with sequences shot in Florence, Rome, Vatican City and Milan, as well as against the spectacular backdrop of the celebrated Carrara marble quarries and inside the secret hiding place underneath the New Sacristy of the Basilica of San Lorenzo, where the artist took refuge to escape persecution (not open to the public).

The artist, restless and eternally dissatisfied,  is played by actor Enrico Lo Verso, while the part of the narrator (renaissance art historian Giorgio Vasari) is performed by Ivano Marescotti.  Some of the most spectacular scenes involve the recreation of the Sistine Chapel before Michelangelo began his titanic task of transforming the ceiling and walls, achieved through revolutionary computer graphic techniques.

The "Free in Art" initiatives will continue in other Italian prisons throughout the coming season.
