Latin is generally supposed to be a dead language and, in fact, it is not longer taught in many schools, especially in Northern Europe. However, the tradition is very much alive at the Accademia Vivarium Novum in Frascati, in the Castelli Romani near Rome. The Accademy is housed in the frescoed rooms of the prestigious Villa Falconieri and attracts students from as far away as the USA, Russia, Australia, Mexico, Taiwan and China. The hundred rooms in the renaissance villa are all fully booked for the summer courses, which are open to students of all ages. Part of the Accademy's success is its teaching method which follows the principal of full immersion. Both inside and outside the classroom, Latin is spoken as a living language. No other means of verbal communication is allowed. The programme includes theatrical performances of Latin plays, readings of the works of Latin authors, philosophy, history, music, tours and field trips. Students are so enthusiastic that many come back for a return visit.  Source: L'Espresso 2/2/2020 Angiola Codacci-Pisanelli.
