ROME COMBINES VISITS COLOSSEUM & ZOO
Rome has just launched a special excursion packet that few other cities can equal. Aimed principally at families and schools, the combined ticket offers tours of the Colosseum plus the Rome Zoo, officially known as the Biopark.
The tours focus on the animals involved, not only in the circus spectacles of Roman times, but also on the fauna that has spontaneously taken up residence in the Roman ruins, like the peregrine falcon. The follow up visit to the zoo highlights the animals who featured in the mythology and religious beliefs of Ancient Rome.
The Rome project is called: “Orme del Tempo. Dal Colosseo alla Fauna del Bioparco di Roma” (“Footsteps in Time. From the Colosseum to the Fauna in Rome's Biopark”) with tours available for online booking
Rome's Bioparco occupies some 42 acres of landscaped garden inside the Villa Borghese Park and houses 222 species of animals. The Biopark Foundation adheres to the global movement “Reverse the Red” that works to contrast the extinction of animal and plant species from all over the planet.
