The famous Etruscan Banditaccio Necropolis at Cerveteri, near Rome, has been equipped to suit the requirements of twenty-first century tourism. The archaeological site, a UNESCO World Heritage site, can now boast multilingual audiovisual projections, virtual reconstructions of the tombs as they were originally, special sound effects, 3D video, animated figures and so on, thanks to Lazio Futouring, a technological laboratory for cultural activities and heritage, developed by Lazio Regional government and partner Filas.

A new multimedia itinerary guides visitors through the eight most important tombs on the site, recreating the times of the ancient Etruscans and the grave goods that were found in the characteristic domed burial chambers and which are now in museums. The project was curated by journalist Piero Angelo, well-known for his scientific programmes on Italian TV. Angelo also lent his voice to the recording describing the funeral customs of the Etruscans which accompanies tourists throughout their visit. In addition, descriptions and explanations of the various points of interest can be accessed directly via Smartphone.

A 3D video has been created and will be on show at the Etruscan Museum of Cerveteri and in various other museums in the world.
