inviting programme has been set up by the Region of Tuscany, the town councils
of Florence and Certaldo, along with the Giovanni Boccaccio national board, to
celebrate the seventh centenary of the birth of one of Italy’s most famous poets,
author of the Decameron.<o:p></o:p></font></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt;"><span lang="EN-US" style="mso-ansi-language: EN-US;"><font face="Calibri">On the 28
and 29 September, the Boccaccesca 2013 events commemorate the “Places connected
with Boccaccio”, including the house where he was born, now a museum. The house
was reconstructed after the damage it suffered in the last war and contains a
vast collection of books and manuscripts translated into all languages. The
latest restoration in 2007 gives access to the tower, from which visitors get a
spectacular view over the Tuscan landscape, including nearby San Gimignano.<o:p></o:p></font></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt;"><span lang="EN-US" style="mso-ansi-language: EN-US;"><font face="Calibri">On the
10-12 October 2013, Certaldo, along with the Palazzo della Signoria and the
Accademia della Crusca in Florence, will hold an international convention on Giovanni
Boccaccio with speakers from all over Italy, France, Switzerland and the USA.<o:p></o:p></font></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt;"><span lang="EN-US" style="mso-ansi-language: EN-US;"><font face="Calibri">Not to be
forgotten: the humble “Certaldo Onion”, mentioned in the Decameron IV-10. It
will feature on all restaurant menus throughout the celebrations. Medieval
