The Carnival season starts with a swing in the popular Dolomite ski resort of Ortisei in Val Gardena (Bolzano) on  Shrove Thursday, the 27^th February 2014, with the traditional Grand Carnival Parade that wends from the Dolomite Madonna hotel to Ortisei, where the Ortisei Carnival Ski Show takes place in the evening.

Festivities continue on the following Sunday with a series of events culminating in a Grand-Open-Air-Apr�s-Sk-Party and a spectacular torch-lit ski descent Monday evening,

The five-day event closes on Tuesday 4^th March, with a “Carnival Olympics” contest, specially organized for children, a figure skating spectacle and the final Ski Show performed in fancy dress.

Visitors can keep out the cold with a hearty plate of steaming panicia, the time-honoured barley and speck soup of the mountain valley.
