COLOSSEUM TWINS WITH RIO DE JANIERO REDEEMER

Rome's Colosseum has twinned up with the monumental statue of Christ the Redeemer that dominates the city of Rio De Janiero in Brazil with the objective of exchanging experiences and advice, in particular on how to cope with the increasing problem of “over tourism.”

Both the Colosseum and the Redeemer have been featured since 2007 in the list of the “New Seven Wonders of the World”, a Foundation based in Switzerland. The seven winners, selected by international poll, were whittled down from an original 22 candidates worldwide.

The other chosen sites are: the Pyramids of Gaza, Egypt, the city of Petra in Jordan, the Great Wall of China, Chichen Itza, Mexico, and Machu Picchu, Peru.
