On Sunday, 29th June, the town of Bolzano in the Trentino-Alto Adige region, celebrates the centenary of the Colle (or Kohlern) cable car, inaugurated on the 29th June 1908. The Colle cable car is the oldest in the world by a month. Switzerland, in fact, completed the Wetterhorn-Aufzug cable car of the worlds number 2 on the 27th July 1908. The Colle cable car has been completely renovated and is now equipped with gondolas for 20 passengers. An attractive programme of musical, folkloristic and gastronomic events will mark the event.

Venices public works councillor has announced plan to convert one of its most important bridges, the Ponte dell'Accademia, into a permanent structure. The present bridge is made of wood with iron supports and was only intended to be temporary, when it was first set up in 1933.

Italy's answer to Dolly the sheep, Prometea, the world's first cloned horse, recently gave birth to a healthy foal named Pegaso at the Cremona Laboratory of Reproduction Technology where she was born in 2003. Mother and baby are both doing very well, said researcher Cesare Galli, head of the team that created Prometea from cells taken from her mother. The animals belong to an ancient native Italian breed known as Aveglinese or Haflinger, from the Hafling valley in Alto Adige (South Tirole).
