The famous Made in Italy label is universally recognized as a guarantee of excellence. But with many manufacturers moving their operations to countries where labour is cheaper, how reliable is this Made in Italy logo?

SUPER TRUFFLE GOES TO HONG KONG 

No sign of crisis in the truffle market! At the recent annual truffle auction at the Castle of Grinzane Cavour (Cuneo), this years super white truffle from Alba (Piedmont) was purchased by a buyer from Hong Kong. The monster tuber, weighing 750 grams, was knocked down for 100,000.

Another truffle, weighing 385 grams, was purchased by a local Italian buyer for 7,700 who donated it to charity.

The Consortium of Pastai (pasta manufacturers) of Gragnano (Campania region), carried off one of the four prestigious nominations for food excellence awarded in this years edition of the Foreign Press Association of Romes gourmet group (Gruppo del Gusto).

Romes city council has introduced, on an experimental basis, a team of 16 young people who are to ride round the city centre to assist tourists.

The excavations in Rome Piazza Venezia for the new underground C Line have brought to light traces of important  archaeological remains that have galvanized researchers of Ancient Roman history....

VILLA D'ESTE BERNINI FOUNTAIN RESTORED

One of Villa d'Estes famous fountains, known as Il Bicchierone (or The Great Goblet), has been restored to its former glory after some years of neglect. Although the fountain, which takes the form of a banqueting cup sitting in a sea-shell shaped base, is not the most spectacular of the Tivoli gardens water plays, it is of special interest as it was designed by the great baroque sculptor Gian Lorenzo Bernini in 1661 for Cardinal Rinaldo d'Este.
